Think Outside the Urn

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

For as long as I can remember, I’ve admired those who lived their lives just a little bit differently, taking pride in themselves, their work and their lives while at the same time being unafraid of doing things just a little bit differently. Back in the day, this was often called marching to the beat of a different drum. Nowadays, we frequently speak of those who think outside the box. (I’ve come to dislike the term “maverick” thanks to a certain person who makes a claim to that title which is no longer justified in any way. As far as I’m concerned, “maverick” is a fishing boat.)

But today I saw the story of a creative thinker who, like the greatest of his kind, carried that pride of creation and fearlessness of being different through the end of his life, and beyond:

Way to go, Mr. Baur. And kudos to your family for respecting your wish.

Bloom County Classic

I subscribe to one of the online comic syndicators, and my subscription list includes “Bloom County” (which has, over the past few years, seemed every bit as relevant as it did 25 years ago).  Today’s strip was one of the all time classics:

Indeed, the exclamation “Bozo!” has become a part of my vocabulary when referring to annoying politicans and other aggravating people.

Some Folks Just Don’t Get It

Really, it’s not what you think:

It has absolutely nothing to do with William Burroughs, although I can’t help but think he’d have been very amused by the whole idea.

What better way to get back into regular updates than with a bit of good, geeky fun, and not far from home to boot?

Those of you who are regular readers of sites like Digg or Slashdot have probably already heard of this, but for those of you who aren’t or otherwise missed it:
